Day 1 - Marathon, Completed
The marathon was a gruelling 20km paddle mixing both Ocean and Flatwater paddling Skills. The start line was Snapper Rocks with competitors paddling into Currumbin Alley then up the River for another 10kms of flatwater fun.
Michael Booth hit the Currumbin Surf first ahead of Matt Nottage and Lincoln Dews. Close behind this was the pack of Blue Planet Team rider Ty Judson and Kelly Margetts.
As the competitors headed up the river not much changed with Michael Booth outlasting both Nottage and Dews who finished close behind in 2nd and 3rd. A pack of four then sprinted around the last buoy with Ty Judson finishing a gallant 7th. A great result for the 17 year old future star who continues to rise up the world rankings and show much more experienced paddlers that he will be a force to reckon with in the coming Years. Nathan Cross did an awesome job aswell and finished just outside the top 10. Nathan has only been paddling for the last couple of Years and continues a sharp rise up the placings each comp he enters.
A great result in the women's with Lisa Cross finishing 2nd in the o/40 Womens event on the Blue Planet DarkHorse model.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the race with conditions towards the end of the race being brutal with a long flatwater upwind grind.
